This past week, a person came up to me and said “I just want you to know that you do a great job of being MORE than a doctor.” I had just finished delivering some words at a nonprofit fundraiser. So it took me a minute to gather my thoughts and process the comment. But later, those words resonated so deep within me.
It made me think back to my mentor who is now an assistant dean at a medical school asking me the most impactful question of my life. She said “maggie what is your legacy going to be?” At that point I was in my first year of medical school and all I wanted was to be able to pass biochemistry. However, when I dared to really reflect on that question my life changed. My view on what it means to be impactful, my motivation for success shifted, and since then I’ve been working backwards. I see the vision, it’s now my job to leave behind a legacy that the best represents my calling. So I asked you to BE MORE.
BE MORE THAN A TITLE.
BE MORE THAN WHAT OTHERS SEE FOR YOU.
BE A FORCE.
BE A VOICE.
BE THE CHANGE.
